Bose SoundTouch not working after the cloud shutdown: causes and solutions
Not every SoundTouch feature disappeared on May 6, 2026. The first step is to distinguish a real hardware fault from a function that depended on the discontinued Bose cloud.
What Bose discontinued
Bose ended cloud support for SoundTouch on May 6, 2026. Music services can no longer be browsed and launched inside the SoundTouch app as before, and preset buttons can no longer be reassigned through the Bose cloud.
This does not automatically mean that your speaker is broken. The updated SoundTouch app can still discover, configure, control and group systems on the same home network. Depending on the model, Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify Connect, AUX, HDMI or optical input may also remain available.
Typical symptoms
If this matches your situation, the cause is probably not a conventional hardware failure. A factory reset cannot restore a discontinued cloud function and may remove settings that are still present.
- A preset button reports that the service is unavailable.
- A previously saved internet radio station no longer starts.
- Music services are missing from the SoundTouch app.
- The speaker is visible locally but offers fewer functions than before.
- Spotify Connect, Bluetooth or TV audio still works.
Your options now
For occasional playback, you can use the remaining inputs and streaming methods supported by your model. If you want internet radio and the six physical buttons back, an independent open-source solution may be suitable.
After setup, SoundTouch Reborn runs locally on the speaker. It can provide internet radio, presets and browser-based control without the former Bose cloud. The software is free and can be installed using its public instructions.
